Café Giảng

Café Giảng is the famous brand of the egg coffee in Hanoi; this brand is named after its founder – Mr. Nguyen Van Giang who is the father of the egg coffee. The Café Giang will be just a usual coffee shop as others in Hanoi if it is not attached to the story about the birth of egg coffee in the 1940s. In 1945, Mr. Giang retired from Sofitel Legend Metropole Hotel as a bartender, he raised a desire of bringing Cappuccino closer to Vietnamese. With his desire, in 1946 he founded his first coffee shop named Café Giang in 90 Cau Go street, Hanoi and now in 39 Nguyen Huu Huan street, Hanoi.

At that time, the Vietnamese war hardly passed and the business still met difficulties; therefore, fresh milk which is one of the main ingredients of Cappuccino was always in the short supply in Vietnam. In that case, Mr. Giang thought to substitute egg yolk for the fresh milk; the fatness of shaking egg yolk is mingling with the bitterness of the coffee bean which makes the wonderful drink called “Egg Coffee”. When calling on Café Giang now, you will be offered two kinds of drink: Egg coffee and Egg Cacao, the cups will keep warm or cold in the bowl of hot or cold water.

Đinh Café

Dinh Café is also a coffee shop that is well-known for the egg coffee; the name “Dinh” is named after the street “Dinh Tien Hoang” where it is placed. Dinh was opened in 1984 by Mrs. Bich who is the daughter of the father’s egg coffee – Mr. Giang on the second floor of the small old house with the view over Hoan Kiem Lake. Until now, when you visit Dinh Café, you still see the portraits of a young lady who is Mrs. Bich at a young age around the small room of Dinh Café.

Although published after Café Giang, Dinh still appeals much attention from the young Hanoians by both the beautiful landscape, young ambiance and the cups of egg coffee. This egg coffee there has a very special taste and different from the egg coffee of Mrs. Bich’s father – Mr. Giang.

If you want to know the specialty of the egg coffee in Dinh Café, an advice for you to have the best experience there is that you should avoid setting off on the weekend due to its density. Café Năng

Situated in the Old Quarter of Hanoi, Café Nang was the favorite meeting point of Hanoian artists over 50 years ago.
